Are PTFE and Teflon the Same?

As a 16-year-old Chinese manufacturer, we are frequently asked by many customers about PTFE versus Teflon.

They are wondering if those two are the same.

Here's the simple truth: these terms refer to identical substances.

PTFE stands for polytetrafluoroethylene, the technical chemical name, while Teflon represents its commercial branding. The material offers three key advantages: flexibility, non-adhesive properties, and resistance to chemical corrosion, high temperatures, and electrical currents. This versatile polymer delivers reliable performance in demanding applications.

PTFE Characteristics:

Known for the lowest friction coefficient among solid materials, this polymer repels water completely. It maintains chemical stability across aggressive environments and remains unaffected by most solvents. With operational resilience from -200°C to 260°C (-328°F to 500°F), it retains flexibility even in subzero conditions. The material demonstrates exceptional electrical insulation capabilities, particularly effective in high-frequency applications.
