Where Mountains Meet the Sea, a City of Pet Love. In June 2025, the Shinan District Civilized Dog Ownership Theme Event, themed "Pet Love with Care, Human-Pet Harmony, Shared Civilization," shone brightly at Qingdao MixC.

Hosted by the Shinan District New Era Civilization Practice Center, the event aligned with the summer solstice solar term and its core mission of promoting responsible pet ownership. Centered on the theme "Summer of Affection: Furry Friends' Midsummer Adventures," it featured five distinct zones: Goodies Show: Cute Power Fair," "Sports Show: Fun Carnival," and "Fashion Show: Pet Catwalk." Through playful "puppy-plus" experiences, the event promoted responsible pet ownership, explored new pathways for harmonious human-pet coexistence in urban districts, and fostered synergistic development between the pet economy and civic civilization.

The event kicked off with a delightful pet runway show. Qingdao MixC's Shiguang Garden underwent a major makeover into a pet-friendly runway, breaking free from traditional venues to bring the "civilized catwalk" into the mall. Each participating pet owner dressed their furry companions in leashes and stylish outfits. Professional photographers were stationed at key points along the runway to capture memorable moments between owners and their dogs.

The sports arena featured an interactive pet-owner board game. Teams divided into red, yellow, blue, and green colors advanced across a giant board based on dice rolls, testing both canine-human coordination and strategic luck. With each dice toss, their "sky-high adventure" commenced.

Small acts of friendship add up to big civility. In recent years, Shinan District has implemented a multi-pronged approach of "publicity + services + governance" to advance five major initiatives for enhancing civic civility, including "civilized dog ownership." This has helped embed the concept of responsible pet ownership deeply in the community. Centered around six key civilized dog ownership practices, the event featured a themed wall promoting friendly initiatives and six designated check-in points. Each checkpoint displayed tips for responsible dog ownership, guiding participants to understand the principles of civilized pet care and observe such behaviors in their communities. Through these experiences, attendees became advocates and participants in the "civilized dog ownership" initiative.

The event also featured "Civilized Puppy" ambassador medals made from seed paper, conveying sustainable environmental values. Participating pet owners snapped photos with their dogs wearing the medals. Citizens who completed civilized dog ownership quizzes with limited-time NPCs and checked in for responsible practices could redeem prizes like balloon puppies and pet care gift packs, creating heartwarming scenes throughout the venue.

This initiative ignited public enthusiasm for actively participating in civility enhancement activities. Moving forward, Shinan District will deepen its themed practical activities on responsible dog ownership, continuously building people-pet friendly civilized spaces and fostering a pet-friendly environment. From facility optimization to service upgrades, these efforts will infuse urban civility development with greater warmth.
