Dog owners in Germany will soon be required by law to take a walk with their pets twice a day.

Agriculture Minister Julia Clockner said she was introducing a new law based on evidence that many of the country's 9.4 million dogs do not receive the necessary exercise or incentives.

Under the new Hundeverordnung rules or dog law, owners will not run fast around the block, but instead they must keep their dogs out for at least an hour.

Klockner noted that the rules are based on new scientific findings that have shown that dogs need "an adequate measure of activity and contact with environmental stimuli," including other animals, nature and humans. Tying dogs on dog leashes or dog leads for a long time is also completely forbidden.

Dogs should not be left alone for days, and a person will have to take care of their dog "several times a day."

Clockner said: "Dogs are not stuffed animals. They also have their needs that need to be taken into account."

How can we say that we love our pets when we treat them so badly? True!
