Shanghai Pilots New Rules for Pets in Parks

Shanghai will pilot new pet park access regulations starting September 1, permitting pets into designated "pet-friendly parks" while requiring leash compliance and waste cleanup. This marks a significant step in Shanghai's efforts to build a pet-friendly city, aiming to better accommodate residents' desire to bring their pets on outings.

Under the new regulations, pet owners must comply with a series of rules, including but not limited to: keeping pets on a leash, promptly cleaning up after their pets, and preventing pets from frightening others.
The park also features convenient facilities such as pet waste collection bins and drinking fountains for pets.

Currently, several parks in Shanghai have been designated as pilot sites, including Xuhui Riverside Green Space, parts of Century Park, and the entire Kunshan Park.
Relevant authorities stated that they will evaluate the outcomes based on the pilot programs, gradually expand the scope of pet-friendly parks, and simultaneously refine management measures.

Important Notice: Daily admission hours are from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Only dogs and cats are permitted as pets. Large pets with a shoulder height ≥45cm must wear a muzzle.
Pets must be kept on a leash at all times using a rigid leash ≤1.5m in length; retractable leashes are prohibited. Pets are not permitted to relieve themselves in open areas. If necessary, owners must provide their own pee pads, waste bags, etc.,
and dispose of waste in designated pet waste bins. Pet owners are required to comply with park regulations, actively yield to the elderly, children, pregnant individuals, and those afraid of pets, and jointly maintain a friendly park environment.

Following the implementation of pet access to public parks, we must equip ourselves with essential pet supplies when traveling with our beloved companions. These include:
- Sturdy, high-tensile leashes
- Durable, waterproof collars
- Anti-choke harnesses
Using these supplies ensures the safety of ourselves, others, and our pets, demonstrating responsible pet ownership during outings.
